Walter Bauman Jewelers traces its beginning to 1868 when Walter Bauman's grandfather started a wholesale watch and jewelry business in Pittsburgh, PA.. Shortly thereafter, the business moved to New York City following a growing demand for fine jewelry and timepieces. In 1935, Walter Bauman was happy to accept his grandfather's invitation to join him in the expanding wholesale business.

After years of requests from the public, Walter Bauman decided to open a retail store. In 1960 he found the perfect location at 643 Eagle Rock Avenue in West Orange, New Jersey, where the flagship store can be found today. His idea was to offer the public the same low prices other retailers were paying for merchandise. Combined with unmatched selection and service, the West Orange store soon became well-known for the best deals on fine jewelry and giftware.

Starting in the 1970's Walter Bauman Jewelers began its involvement with Estate and Antique jewelry. By paying the highest prices for any gold or diamond jewelry, pearls or watches they have built up a spectacular collection including many one-of-a-kind pieces. Working hard over the past 35 years to make itself one of America's great dealers in purchasing and selling Estate and Antique jewelry.

With growing popularity, there are now four retail locations in New Jersey with over 150 employees: West Orange, Union, Short Hills, and Clifton. These stores are currently run by Walter Bauman's children, Ed, Margery and Freddie, his grandchildren, and a group of talented and dedicated managers, experts, and sales consultants. To better serve its customers Walter Bauman Jewelers has made it a policy for each store to have at least one trained gemologist or diamond expert, as well as a jewelry craftsperson. At the present time, Walter Bauman Jewelers has thirteen graduates of the Gemological Institute of America on staff.

Known as an authority on jewelry and giftware in the region, the Bauman family has been found quoted in such newspapers as the New York Times and the Newark Star Ledger, as well as numerous trade publications.
