Explore our 150 years in business, from 1868 to today.
The Ollendorff Watch Company was founded in Pittsburgh by Isador Ollendorff, great, great grandfather of Walter Bauman Jewelers’ current owners Walter and Russell Bauman. The company imported watches from Switzerland.
The Ollendorff Watch company was later passed down to Isador’s sons, Walter, Herbert and Morton Ollendorff, who ran the business in NYC.
Walter O. Bauman started U.S. Watch Co., a wholesale business, out of his West Orange home.
Walter O. Bauman moved his U.S. Watch Co. business to 643 Eagle Rock Avenue in West Orange, home of the future Walter Bauman Jewelers and on the same block as our current flagship location. During this timeframe, he recognized the need for a retail location after many requests from the public. His idea was to offer the public the same low prices other retailers were paying for merchandise.
On April 15, 1970, Walter Bauman Jewelers, the jewelry retail business, was incorporated.
During the early-to-mid 1970’s, Walter O. Bauman’s children, Ed, Margery and Freddie joined the business.
During this same decade, Walter Bauman Jewelers began its involvement with Estate and Antique jewelry. By paying the highest prices for any gold or diamond jewelry and watches, they have built a spectacular collection, including many one-of-a-kind pieces. In that regard, Walter Bauman Jewelers has worked hard for over 45 years to make itself one of America’s great dealers in purchasing and selling vintage jewelry.
In July, current owners, Walter and Russell Bauman, take over day-to-day operations of Walter Bauman Jewelers following the retirement of their father and aunts.
In February, Walter Bauman Jewelers finishes renovations on its West Orange flagship location and moves up the block to 653 Eagle Rock Avenue.
Old World Capital was founded in 2014 with a simple belief: There has to be a better way to access capital. Old World Capital is the only luxury pawnbroker specializing in jewelry, watches and gems.
The first Old World Capital office opened next to Walter Bauman Jewelers in West Orange, NJ.
TODAY, WALTER BAUMAN JEWELERS EMPLOYS 40 EMPLOYEES, 8 OF WHOM ARE GEMOLOGISTS.
COMBINED, THE STORES’ ESTATE SELECTION OFFERS OVER 2,500 PIECES FROM WHICH TO CHOOSE.
WALTER BAUMAN JEWELERS JUST OPENED ITS NEWEST LOCATIONS IN THIS YEAR IN BOONTON AND FAIRFIELD (IN THE CALANDRA’S BAKERY PLAZA). IT’S VERY EARLY DAYS, BUT THE BAUMAN FAMILY HAS ALREADY ENJOYED A WARM WELCOME FROM ITS NEW NEIGHBORS AND IS EXCITED TO JOIN THE BOONTON AND FAIRFIELD COMMUNITIES AND SERVE AS THEIR PERSONAL JEWELER.
